Rally Tractors Vintage Modern Bikes Commercial
Another successful rally of the West Cumbria Vintage Club was held on the 6th July 2008 at Hayes Castle Farm, Distington. This year the event was squeezed in between the A595 and the new by-pass which is under construction but apart from some of the car park field being taken by the construction site the field was basically the same. For the most part the rain held off apart from an occasional shower despite the fact that some people from further afield had turned back expecting the worst. Once more the rally provided a good day out for the family rather than just a collection of old vehicles.
Two heavy horses gave free rides around the show field in a covered carriage.
The craft tent contained many exhibitors selling jewellery, paintings, photos, wood turning and other craft items.
There was also another tent dedicated to the craft of wood turning where people could watch the craftsman at work on the lathe turning out all sorts of wonderful items.
The was also an on-going demonstration throughout the day of another woodcraft - that of chainsaw sculpture. It is quite amazing to see an intricate sculpture emerge from a log of wood within minutes as Rodney Holland wields his noisy chainsaw.
There was also many stalls representing local and national charities and information and promotional stands plus a car boot sale with the usual mix of junk and priceless antiques. There is also an auction that sells odd bits of vehicles that might be the essential items to finish some restoration project.
A model and collectors tent had a variety of hobbyist collections with enthusiasts keen to share their specialist knowledge.
This year as well as cars from the Malcolm Wilson rally team there was bikes and video from Workington speedway.
