Children's Memorial in St. Nicholas gardens

This memorial is near the Duke Street entrance to the St. Nicholas gardens in the town centre. It commemorates the lives of the numerous children killed working in the coal pits under Whitehaven. Some where as young as 8 years old and by the time of this memorial over 80 deaths of those under 15 years of age had been discovered in the archives, largely by the diligent research of Ray Devlin.
