The John Paul Jones public house is not only named after but themed around the American revolutionary hero who learnt his trade as a sailor in Whitehaven. Probably just called Jack Paul when he served his apprenticeship here, he later returned to try to burn the shipping and town during his famous/infamous career, depending on which side of the Atlantic you reside.
