This year's Mayor was Henry Wormstrup and as with tradition he took part in the Carnival Procession. He was accompanied by Jo Booth from the Lions Charity group, who organise the carnival, and Lee Hodgson the Mayoress.
Blyth Hearts Marching Display Band who had come all the way from Northumberland added a great spectacle to the procession with their vivid blue and white military style uniforms with plumed hats and also some music with kazoo's, drums and xylophones.
As usual Whitehaven Brass band was on hand to provide some traditional style music but they now have some competition from Cleator Moor Brass band who have grown significantly over the last 18 months.
There was also 2 sets of drummers adding some rhythm to the parade. Those above were Soundwave from Stainburn School, Workington. Those below were from STIX percussion drum school.
This comical bird was attracted to many of the children watching the procession and certainly put a smile on their faces.
This cyclist towered above everyone watching and must have travelled a fair few extra miles as he cycled around whilst waiting for the slow moving procession.
Jericho school had a marching tableau depicting a year in the life of Jericho school. This seemed to involve Sports, Harry Potter and Pirates - we only ever got to do 'ritin, addin' up and colourin' in.
1st Hensingham scout troupe were celebrating their 60th anniversary and featured a camping Bear amusingly named Grylls.
A mention must also go to the crowds that lined the streets and cheered on the parade all the way round town who basked in beautiful sun.
